چکیده

Peritonitis is a common and serious complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD). Although less than 5% peritonitis episodes result in death, the direct or major contributing cause death around 16% PD patients. The longevity Peritoneal Dialysis markedly reduced by risk related infections. Fungal peritonitis in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.

Fungal peritonitis represents one of the most serious complications in patients on peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). The therapy often consists of peritoneal catheter extraction and patient recruitment to hemodialysis. For some of the patients the peritoneal dialysis is the only way of dialysis, due to inability to perform a permanent vascular access. In this study we present 13 patients with fungal ...

Peritonitis in patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.

A simple laboratory method for culture of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) fluids is described. Guidelines for antimicrobial therapy are discussed based on results from 18 patients studied over an 11-week period. Cephalosporins appeared to be a rational choice for therapy while awaiting laboratory results.

Peritonitis-related deaths in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients.

A total of 636 episodes of peritonitis occurred in 440 patients who entered our continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) program from September 1977 to February 1988. Sixteen patients (8 male and 8 female, aged 37-77 years) died during an episode of peritonitis (fatality rate 2.5%). They had been on CAPD for 3 to 105 (average 39) months. Six of them were diabetics. The peritonitis rate ...

Epidemiology of culture-negative peritonitis in Iranian patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.

INTRODUCTION Culture-negative peritonitis is a major challenge in the treatment of peritonitis in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). This study aimed to evaluate the culture-negative peritonitis in patients from the Iranian CAPD Registry. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data of 1472 patients from 26 CAPD centers were analysed. Peritonitis was defined as any clinical suspicion together wi...

Tuberculous peritonitis in a patient undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis.

Complication of peritonitis developed in a 61 year old patient who was undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and whose dialysate culture was negative for both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and fungi. Despite the administration of various antibiotics and repeated mechanical lavages, inflammatory response and fever could not be controlled and therefore on the 8th hospital d...
